Dufftown

Friday, 04/13/2012: Today we make our way to Dufftown. We start after breakfast at the "Marmelade Hotel" at 09:30. Our route takes us through the "Skye Bridge" allong the west coast. Shortly before Ullapool we will turn east towards Inverness, and then head to the north coast on Elgin to Dufftown. The west coast is spectacular and we find a lot of opportunities to shoot great photos (Our route is here).

In the late afternoon we arrive at Dufftown after 250 miles by car. The weather here is a little bit fresher and we learn that it snowed last night. Our B & B is charming and Alan has a great bar with over 250 single malts. After a cozy dinner in Dufftown, we go to a bar where we meet a few German and the "German Grouse" Mark. He works as Mashman and Stillman at "Famous Grouse". The night is long and we drink some Guinness and Malt, Cheers
Saturday, 14.04.2012: After our first breakfast in "Tannochbrae" Guest House, we are on our way to "Glendronnach". Once there, we have to notice, unfortunately, "Glendronach" has closed on weekends. On the way back to Dufftown, we decide to stop at "Strathisla" in Keith. The way is quite strenuous, as we got into a really heavy snow storm. Arrived at "Strathisla", tears open the sky and the sun is shining brightly. After a short visit and sign up for the next day's tour, we make our way back quickly to Dufftown, as we do not want to appear too late at "Aberlour". A short visit to "Macallan" we do it anyway.

At Aberlour we are warmly welcomed. We have 16 participants and a group from Germany is also included. During the tour, we can not make any photos, only while Tasting. The tour is really good and the tasting of 6 different "Aberlour" Malts is very good. First, we can enjoy a "New Spirit". Then, two 16 year old single cask malts (a bourbon and sherry malt). These two malts can be bought only in the distillery, one more reason to come back. Next is the 10 year old and an 18 year old. For the final, there is the "a'bunadh". After a great tasting I fill my own bottle of 16 year old Single Cask Sherry Wood who will accompany me to Germany. After a very cheerful farewell (no wonder after 6 malts), we gonna have a Guinness with the German folks in the "Mash Tun". It's a great guest house with six rooms, all decorated in the colors of the a distilleries near to "Mash Tun". Then we go back to Dufftown to look for a nice restaurant. After a brilliant Dinner and a hard day, we go to bed early because tomorrow we have another long day ahead of us.

Sunday, 15/04/12: After our last breakfast we thank Alan for his hospitality and drive to "Glenfiddich". At 10:30 we have a tour that is even free. Then there is a complimentary tastings (12yo, 15yo and 18yo). After the tasting we go to "Strathisla" where our tour begins at 13:00. "Strathisla" is a very interesting distillery, unfortunately, the majority used for the Blend "Chivas". After tasting we drive towards Pitlochry, where we start our final part of this journey...
