2012: Isle of Skye

After 2 nights in Oban, we took the route to Portree (capital from Isle of Skye) via Loch Ness, Eilean Donan Castle, Skye Bridge.

The Route is approx 170 miles and the travel was about 5h with intermediate stops. If you like to get some impressions, watch the Album here or select one on the right.

After our arrival in Portree, we checked in the Marmalade Hotel. It's a very nice place with a good Restaurant and nice views from the room. Our first evening we spent in Portree hunting for a nice seafood reastaurant.

For the first day we decided to go to north and travel around the Trotternish Peninsula. It is the biggest and the northern peninsula on Skye with the Storr and Quiraing Mountains.

We went to Kilt Rock, a stunning Basalt Rock formation with a 55m waterfall. From Portree you take the A855 to Staffin for about 25km.

After Kilt Rock we drove through the Peninsula, where we had brilliant views from Quiraing to Staffin Bay.  There is a viewpoint, which is the highest spot wwhere you have brilliant views to the east.

Arrived at Uig, we drove back via the top of Skye and went back to "Old Man Of Storr" which is a famous hiking spot. It's a 50m Rock needle on 560m altitude (just take a look at the Album here).

On our second day in Portree we've done a Boat Trip in Portree, which was not very impressive. The Landscapes were really nice.

After this boat trip we wen to Elgol, where we did our second Boat Trip to a Seal Colony and Loch Coruisk. This was a beautiful tour because we where 1,5h ashore to walk around Loch Coruisk (watch the album here).
From Elgol we travelled to the most western point "Neist Point" and the Lighthouse. At sunset we drove back to Portree.

 What a beautiful day...
